Sian Bonnell Talk

We welcome the last speaker, Sian Bonnell. Her photography career spans from the 20th to the 21st century, and some of the older cameras she used are rarely found now. Her speech mentioned the European Renaissance in the Middle Ages. Her interest in belief structure and instruction manuals painted are reflected in her works. In the decades when Bonnell took photos, she made her own elements and used them to perform performing experiments on space, object, and subject. During this period, she shared that she used to record the movement of light in a room, which is very similar to my project center this semester, light and shadow. Bonnell also shared her food with object's work and thoughts. In the picture, tin is used to pin food, which is related to her childhood love to pin unpacking food with tin. Through Sian Bonnell’s speech, we can feel the history and inheritance of photography. As young photographers, we have never had something that we can only know by listening to other people’s explanations. These historical and chronological experiences also make her photos very moving.
